What is The Bible Challenge?

Most vibrant and growing churches share one thing in common – they have a strong commitment to teaching and reading the Bible.  There is a vast difference between attending church and listening to a portion of the Bible being read aloud and actually reading the Bible on your own.  Understanding how the entire Word of God coheres and what God is saying to you daily through Holy Scripture is a transformational experience.  It also makes worship come more alive.  It is like the difference between riding a car as a passenger and not paying close attention to the route being taken versus driving the car and learning the roads that get you to your destination.

Look around and you will see that mainline churches are shrinking.  Their numbers are declining, but interest in Christianity remains strong and there is a growing hunger for authentic spiritual reading.  Twenty-five percent of the books on the New York Times best seller list are on spirituality.  What if we could harness the interest in spirituality and Christianity and develop opportunities in churches to help members and seekers who want to grow spirituality but don’t know where to begin?

In The Bible Challenge we encourage participants to go directly to the source of the Christian faith and see how the Bible coheres.  Reading the Bible on a daily basis will inspire many people to start new ministries, make important decisions and significant changes in their lives.  It will give them strength and comfort as they face major life challenges and allow them to feel truly alive in Christ.

The CBS website is a spiritual resource to help you and your church participate in The Bible Challenge.  If your church or you decide to join The Bible Challenge, please contact me at mzabriskie@stthomaswhitemarsh.org so that we may learn from your experience and support your efforts.  Together we can start a spiritual revolution that changes the world.  What is God saying to you?  Why don’t you open the Bible and see.
